Beaches and BBQ's

We decided to stay home this long weekend. We had thoughts about going to Banff, but when you only think of it a few days before the weekend, you pretty much won't find anywhere decent to stay.

So, we're just going to hang out here and enjoy the nice weather. Today was beach day. Matthew loves going to the beach. I'm not so much of a hot weather person. About an hour in the hot sun (well, actually in the shade under a huge beach umbrella) and I've usually had enough.

Today, the water was actually quite warm in the lake. Matthew loved walking up and down the shore with Daddy. He isn't afraid of the water one bit, which makes me think we need to start taking his life jacket with us. He wanted to keep walking in further and further, and thought it was really funny when we dragged him around like a dolphin in the water.

Summer is for bbqing, so tonight's supper was all on the bbq, thanks to my fancy new bbq gadgets... a fish turner thingy, so we cooked rainbow trout on the bbq. And a basket for cooking veggies in. We also did corn on the cob on the bbq. Who knew that you could put the cobs on just like that (not in their husks) and they still turned out quite juicy!

We gave Matthew some corn off the cob for his supper, but once he saw Mommy and Daddy eating it off the cob, he figured that was how he should do it too!

... I ordered at a restaurant!!

Hi everyone, it's me, Matthew, blogging today.
Sorry, it's been a while, but Mommy has been very very busy at work and, well, you know she has to do the typing for me :O)

So, this past weekend, Mommy and Daddy took me to a restaurant!! It was our first "official" Family breakfast in a restaurant!

We went to this cool place called Cora's... you should see if they have one near where you live.. their food was really yummy and Mommy and Daddy said it didn't cost us too much either!

I wasn't that impressed to start with because the restaurant lady gave me a basket full of broken crayons. I'm only one year old you know, I need better crayons than that! (and, well, I also wanted the camera Daddy had)...

But, it got much better once Mommy gave me her phone to play with instead!

I got to order my very own meal! Mommy and Daddy ordered it as soon as we got there so I didn't have to wait very long. French Toast and Lots of Fruit!! Boy was it Yummy!!!

(Mommy note: Can someone explain to me why my kid seems to eat 10 times as much when I take him out then what I can get him to eat at home?!?! Is he trying to tell me something???)

There was just so much darn excitement in this place.. I had to check out what everyone else was eating too!

... So, I told Mommy and Daddy we definitely have to do this again! It was sooo much fun!

Talk to you later!
Love,
Matthew

We're lucky to have a lake....

..gosh are we lucky to have some sand and some water and a playground so close to our house!

We took advantage of a nice evening this week and went down for a little bit... only downer is those darn mosquitos which cut our evening a bit short :O(

But, we had oodles of fun in the little while we were there! Today is supposed to be 26 outside, so we're hoping to have a little fun in the water later today as well!

....come on Mom, let's go already.... you make me go to bed early, remember?

...on the way to the park....

....whee!!!...

... to the water we go!

I discovered something new!

Hi everyone, it's me, Matthew blogging today.

I discovered something new! Mommy keeps all kinds of fruits in a bowl on our table.. I learned that if you bite into them, they taste really yummy! (well most of them)... lemons are not so good and neither are avocados, but that's how you learn right?

My favourite are peaches! Boy are they juicy!

My first peanut butter and jam sandwich..... mmmmmm, mmmmmm, good!

Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day Dad, and to all of the other dads out there!

Today we will celebrate by watching golf... what else would Matthew's Daddy want to do! With all the excitement around his hero Tiger Woods, it should be a fun filled afternoon... Oh, and we're also buying a lawn mower for Daddy's Father's Day gift :O)

Have a great day!

Mommy and Matthew Day

Hi everyone, it's me, Matthew blogging today.
Today Mommy and I went on a date! It was lots of fun! You see, Daddy is gone for a "guys weekend" to golf and so it's just me and Mommy and Mommy didn't feel like cooking tonight.

So we went to this little restaurant in McKenzie Towne... Mommy and I highly recommend it. We had grilled salmon and roasted potatoes! They were very, very yummy! I couldn't get enough of the salmon.. I ate waaayyyy more than I ever eat at home!

Then, Mommy took me for ice cream! Actually, it was something called Gelato, but it looked like ice cream to me. There were sooo many flavours, we couldn't decide which ones we wanted! The lady let us try one on a little spoon. I thought it was very yummy, so that's the one we got! I don't remember the name of it, but it was vanilla and chocolate and we picked raspberry as our other flavour!

The best part was that the spoons were just my size :O)

My Little Helper

I have a new helper! Mr. Matthew has decided that it is his job to help Mommy empty the dishwasher every day...... particularly every single piece of cutlery, one at a time!
(of course Mommy takes the sharp knives out first)
It is very cute. Matthew takes the spoon out, hands it to Mommy, Mommy says "thank-you" and Matthew laughs... then we repeat 50 or so more times :O)

Matthew's New Game

Matthew's new game is to try and push you to where he wants you to go. So watch out... you might be cooking dinner in the kitchen or standing and brushing your teeth and you'll get a shot right behind the knee caps!

The little monkey is pretty strong too! He things it's absolutely hilarious when you start to walk as he pushes. Funny enough to push Mommy around the kitchen counter... oh about 25 times or so!

I must have been Crazy

.... to go garage saling in today's weather!!! But, remember, I lived in Vancouver for 5 years and if you don't go out and do stuff in the rain, well then you'll never go out and do stuff!!

I scored some good finds.... 24 hardcover kids books for $24... including a brand new version of "tails" which I had just bought for $20. Guess I'll be returning that one!

... the coooolest cassette player (yes I know they don't make cassettes any more) WITH a microphone that changes your voice into either a monster, robot, space person, regular person or chipmunk!! Made by Fisher Price from yesteryear... Matthew thinks this is quite the find... He holds the microphone up to you and wants you to talk.. .but when you hold it up to him, he opens his mouth as if to say something but nothing comes out! It's too funny...

... lastly, 4 new boy trucks, made for 1 year olds that have handles to push around and two have all kinds of buttons to make crazy sounds and even a shape sorter.

... oh, and a CCM wetsuit that still had the tags on it... and a pair of "genuine leather" sandals for Matthew.

Pretty good for $30 total, I would think.

A Mommy & Matthew Day

Mommy had the day off today, so it was a Mommy and Matthew day! We decided to take a trip to the zoo since it is supposed to rain for the rest of the weekend.
Matthew was actually more enthused about the trip than he appears to be here.... I think he recognizes the zoo when we get there because he gets excited!

We saw all of our usual friends, although a lot of the animals weren't out today for some reason. Now this was the closest we had EEEEVVVEERR seen Mr. Hippopotamus! You should see the size of his teeth!!! He was chomping down on a log right in front of us.. Matthew thought he was pretty cool.

By far, the most fun part of the trip was when we went to the gardens and Matthew got to run around for a while and explore... Lots and lots of green, green grass!!

He wants his phone!

I think I've mentioned before that Matthew seems to have an obsession with phones. So much so that both yesterday and today he has picked the "telephone" card out of his deck of 50 or so pictures of things around the house.
Once he sees the phone card, he realizes he hasn't seen his "real" phone and he goes into an all out panic... walking around the house with the card, pointing to it and crying.

So, tonight it was an all out manhunt to find his phone. He doesn't even want the buttons part.. he just wants the receiver!

Phew! Tonight we found it in his room and he was one happy little camper.

Nice horsies....

We've made friends with some horses that live about 5 minutes out of the city from our place. The first time we went there, the horses came to us right away and we fed them grass. Matthew had a huge smile on his face and even petted one on the forehead.

We figured we should make this a recurring event, so this past weekend, we went to visit the horsies again. As soon as we pulled up, Matthew started to babble and laugh and point out the window.. I guess he knew we were going to see his friends!

This time we cemented our friendship with the horses by bringing carrots. Now they're going to be our buddies forever :O)

I'm Such a Big Boy!

Hi everyone, it's me, Matthew blogging today. I haven't blogged for quite a while, so I thought I should leave you a post!

Guess what? I think my Mommy already told you this, but I can get into a chair all by myself!! I am such a big boy!

Here I am telling Mommy that she doesn't have to help me get into the chair by myself anymore.. I can get in and out whenever I want to!

Here I am in the chair... hmmm... I didn't bring any toys up here with me.... now what am I going to do?

Oh well, I guess I better get down again and next time bring a toy with me!
