Hmmmm......

Anyone need a good stock tip? Here's one for you.....

Let's say that 10 million households in North America have little kids.

On average, let's say each house has 4 toys that require batteries... ah hah, but not just any battery... they all require D-Cell batteries (the big fat round ones that cost $8 for a package of 4).

Each toy requires on average, 3 batteries to make it work.

Each toy works for approximately 1 month with a set of batteries.. So, 3 packages per month

Now, let's see, in 1 year.... 10,000,000,000 x 3 x 12 x $8= .... (wait, I've gotta get my calculator out for this one. Mat leave ruins brain cells....).... 2 BILLION, 880 MILLION DOLLARS!!!!! on just 4 kids toys in each house.

See where I'm going here? Wait, I'll check the TSX for you..... Energizer's currently trading at $105.85 and up 85% over the last year.... see what I mean?

They say the baby boom will still go up in numbers.
You can thank me when you get rich :O)

It's 3am, I must be......

You know that song, "It's 3am, I must be lonely....", well.... it's currently 2:36 a.m., I must be crazy!!!! Why am I up?

You see, I've been going to bed shortly after Matthew lately, so around 9 p.m., pretty much because some days I'm exhausted by then... why? I'll get to that later. So, if Matthew doesn't get up until 2 am to eat, then I'm actually getting about 4-5 hours of uninterrupted sleep! And wonderfully, I can actually sleep now, without waking up every 2 hours to see if he's still breathing. It's amazing how much I've begun to rely on the Angelcare monitor (the one that tells you if he's breathing).... I look over and think, well, it's blinking, so he must still be ok :o)

Anyhow, my body has obviously decided over the past 3 months that 5 hours of sleep is all it should be getting and so here I am, wide awake at 3am!

Now, on to that reason that I have to go to bed so early....

Did I mention that my little angel WILL NOT NAP!!!! I've been doing my internet research (the Dr. Spock for the 21st century) and have found out through many other mom's blogs that it seems to be a common theme that if your baby sleeps wonderfully through the night at a young age, there's a good chance they're just catnappers during the day!

Now, I'm not complaining, because my gosh, I don't know how bad it could be in the middle of the night with a screaming baby.... I'll keep knocking on wood that he keeps sleeping as well as he does, but there are some days where I'd give anything to make him sleep just 1 or 2 hours....

The odd day, yes, I get lucky and he sleeps for 2 hours or more! You should see me... I'm running around the house thinking "oh, I should put the laundry in... oh, and now's a good time to pay the bills and... it'd be really good to do some baking right now while I'm uninterrupted... but then a nap myself doesn't sound so bad either..." Actually, when it goes beyond the 1 hour mark, I find myself not trusting the Angelcare so much, and going into his room every 15 minutes because I can't believe he's still sleeping!

He is so much a little catnapper.. he always fools me by falling asleep after nursing... I know, I know, it's a bad habit to get into, but hey, it works. But then sure enough, 40 minutes later, who's giggling in the crib??? Sometimes, I can leave him alone long enough that he falls back asleep for a while longer, but other times the giggles turn to "where the heck are you Mom????"

Ahh..... so, here it is, now 2:44 am ..... still not tired. Guess I'll go read up on everyone else's lives on Facebook... that's always a good time waster!

Sleep tight everyone!

Hi,

Sorry I haven't written for a while.. sometimes the days just go by so quickly and I don't get a chance to sit down at the computer for long.

We're all doing well! Grandma and Grandpa were here to visit last week on their way through to Edmonton and babysat for us while Darren and I went to see Josh Groban. It was a nice break from the house for a while!

Matthew is growing and changing so much every day! He is just over 3 months old now. He just recently discovered that all of the toys around him are for playing with! Now, when you hand him a toy, he will play with it for several minutes, or, he will try to grab at any toys hanging in front of him.

He's also intrigued by his socks lately.. he brings his feet up and stares at his socks! I'm waiting for him to grab his feet one of these days and not let go! Right now, it's like he's trying to figure out what those funny colored things are on his toes! It's so cute :O)

Matthew is also talking up a storm! We'll often hear him for a while when he's supposed to be napping... but instead, he's having conversations with his mobiles or with the animals on the wall! He also tells us all kinds of stories and always has a lot to say when Daddy comes home from work.

Now that the weather is cooler, we are getting a chance to go out for more walks! I still don't like to take him out much during the day because our stroller only has a partial sun shade, but we take a lot of walks right after supper.

We have more pictures to post... I promise to have them up in the next day or two!

Hope you're all well!

Erin

I can't believe he's 3 months old!

Matthew turned 3 months old yesterday! 3 months already? I better not blink or he'll be walking... :o)

Today we went to an infant repositioning class. It was supposed to give you ideas on how to help prevent the flat spots on their heads. They didn't really tell or show us anything that wasn't common sense (like don't lay on the flat side... duh) or anything I hadn't already found on the internet (how did people do it before the days of the internet!?!) but it was an eye opener in terms of how big Matthew really is!

There were four babies ~ each were between 3-4 months old and Matthew looked like a 6 month old next to them! Matthew just seems so much like a little boy to me rather than a "baby".... it must be all the hair that does it. My baby is 16lb now and not slowing down!

Anyhow, I thought I'd just tell you a bit more about Dr. Patti, Matthew's chiropractor. The reason being, because I think a lot people assume (myself included at first) that she will do the same type of adjustments on Matthew that she would do for an adult. Anyone who has never been to a chiropractor (again, myself included) has only heard of the "they snap your neck to the side" kind of thing.

At our class today, the physiotherapist questioned whether the doctor was "snapping" his neck.... oh my goodness no! You think I'd let them do that to my baby?!? As Dr. Patti explains it, babies are mostly cartelidge, so the minimalist amount of pressure (we're talking I could barely feel it when she pressed on my arm) will align their spine. So, no.... no crazy movements (I expected better out of a physiotherapist)... and Dr. Patti specializes in baby care, so we feel 100% comfortable with her! We saw 100% improvement in the first week in that he would not turn his head to the left on his own before seeing her and now he prefers sleeping on the left most of the time!

Talk to you soon,
Erin

I love my Wubanub

Today Mommy gave me a new present! It's called a Wubanub. She said that she bought it from the United States and it had to take a trip in the mail. Sounds like fun!

I love my Wubanub. You see, before my soothie was always falling out of my mouth and I couldn't figure out how to put it back in. My Wubanub is a little beanbag kitty that has a soothie attached to it. Now, with my Wubanub, even if it falls out, I can push it back in! Well, most of the time. If I can't, I just yell and Mommy comes running! (Don't tell her, but sometimes I do this on purpose to see how fast she comes... it's funny!)

Mommy says that whomever thought of a Wubanub should be given a medal. She said something about it being a lifesaver, whatever that means.

I'm smarter than the average baby though. I figured out that if I stick my thumb in the hole of my soothie, then it's like sucking on my soothie and my thumb at the same time! What fun!

Mommy has been taking me to see Dr. Patty. She's a chiropractor.. boy that's a big word! Dr. Patty says that she will help me to be able to move my head to both sides and that way, I won't have a flat head anymore. Mommy was really happy about this! So far, I have seen Dr. Patty twice. I can't even tell that she's helping me. She just holds me in her arms, looks at me in the mirror and gives me a gentle neck massage. I'm always a good baby! I never fuss for her. I only make strange when the reception lady comes to talk to me :O)

Well, it's my bedtime now. I'll talk to you again soon!

Love,
Matthew

A house full of kids!

Our friends Heather and Gary and their two kids Jacob and Mackenzie came to visit on Thursday! Let's just say with a 2 year old, 8 month old and 2 1/2 month old, the house was busy :O)

We didn't have much planned, except a walk down to the lake, but we couldn't even get that coordinated as all 3 had their own schedules! Instead, we just had a nice lazy day and enjoyed our second day of air conditioning!

The adults managed to have a nice visit on Friday night... once all the kids were finally fast asleep of course ;o)

Matthew's First Playdate

Last week, Matthew's friend Kate came over for a playdate! Matthew and Kate were born 9 days apart. Kate's mom and I figured that maybe they were old enough to actually pay attention to each other now! It took a while for them to get to know each other....

But before long they became friends! (how cute... already holding hands at 3 months)

However, the fun was shortlived and before long they were both fast asleep!
