The Top 10 Things I like to Do in a Day

By Matthew.

10. Try and grab the cord while Mommy talks on the phone.
9. Chew on my crib rail while watching the cat sitting on the window.
8. Pull the registers out of the floor as Mommy says "ta ta" for the 182nd time.
7. Play the big piano all by myself
6. Throw things off of my high chair. Watch Mommy pick them up. Repeat.
5. Cuddle with Mommy on the couch with my blankie
4. Push the buttons on the washing machine.
3. Throw clothes out of the washing machine while Mommy puts them in.
2. Open and close the cupboard. Walk to the next one. Open and close again.
1. Play with MY phone (a real phone I might add). Over and over and over and
over and over and over again!

We had a nice Easter

We're back at home now! We had a nice week long vacation in Edmonton and then Saskatoon. Darren came back on the weekend and Matthew and I flew back yesterday.

We got a chance to see all of Matthew's grandparents, aunts and uncles and of course got lots of home cooking! Matthew is sure going to miss Grandma's chicken noodle soup!

We are taking it easy the rest of the week.

Below is a poem that I came across and thought I would share:

Wonderful Ways to Love a Child:

Give your presence. Laugh, dance and sing together.
Listen from heartspace. Encourage. Understand.
Call them love names. Send them love letters.
Really love yourself. Allow them to love themselves.
Ask their opinions. Learn from them.
Say yes as often as possible. Say no when necessary.
Honour their no’s. Stop yelling. Apologize. Touch gently.
Build lots of blanket forts.
Learn about parenting.
Open up. Fly kites together. Change your routine.
Lighten up. Believe in possibilities. Take time away.
Read books out loud. Create a circle of quiet.
Teach feeling. Remove guilt. Share your dreams.
Play hooky together. Walk in the rain. Go barefoot.
Celebreate mistakes. Admit yours.
Frame their artwork. Hang it on the walls.
Stay up late together.
Eliminate comparison. Delight in silliness. Handle with care.
Remember they have not been on earth very long.
Protect them. Homur their differences. Cherish their innocence.
Giggle. Speak kindly.
Go swimming a lot. Splash.
Let them help. Sing during dinner. Let them cry.
Don’t hide your tears. Brag about them. Answer their questions.
Let go when it’s time. Let them come back.
Show compassion.
Keep them in your heart and prayers.

I saw the big mall!

Story #3:

Last Thursday, Mommy, Daddy and I started our holiday! Our first stop was Edmonton. Mommy, Daddy and I got up reaallllly early. Mommy thought it was going to be hard to get up, but I beat Mommy and Daddy getting up!

We left our house at 5:30 a.m. It was pretty dark outside. There were lots of neat lights to look at in our truck and outside. But, I didn't stay awake very long. I think I fell asleep in about 5 minutes!

We got to a place called Nisku, just after 8 in the morning. Daddy had to work there for the day, so we dropped him off. Mommy and I got to spend the whole rest of the day together!

First, we drove to a town nearby and Mommy took me into the Tim Hortons. It was my first time in a Tim Hortons! Mommy changed my diaper and then we ordered breakfast. A croissant to share and some yogurt. Yummy!

Then, we went back to our truck to play for a while. We played in the back seat and I turned all of the nobs on the heater. And then we played in the front seat and I turned all the nobs in the front!

When Mommy thought I was getting tired, she put me back in my carseat and we drove into Edmonton. Mommy played my cartoons on the dvd player for me. I had a good nap in the car while mommy drove. We drove right to a place called West Edmonton Mall. You can see this place from miles away!

Mommy and I did a few laps around the mall. We had a snack in the food court. We saw the puppies in the pet store. Mommy shopped in one store (that's all I would allow her to do). We went in the petting zoo and I saw a baby lamb that was smaller than me! We did a few more laps around the mall. Mommy bought me a monkey (because it made me laugh). And by then it was 12:00.

I think Mommy was starting to worry because I had had enough of this mall by then and she wasn't going to pick Daddy up until 3pm! So, we drove around again. This time, mommy parked in a parking lot. She took all of our things out of the back of the truck and mommy and I had a picnic and played in the back!

After that, we did a bit more shopping at the drugstore and then headed off to pick up daddy.

Then, we went to our hotel. Boy, was I ready for a nap by that time! My hotel had a little crib for me, so Mommy and I had a nap when we got there. Daddy went off to buy his hockey tickets.

That night, I didn't want to eat any of the food mommy brought for me, so Mommy had to order room service. I had hamburgers and fries, mashed potatoes and broccoli! Sound yummy? Of course, I saved some for Daddy when he got home :O)

My Last Day of School

Story #2:

Last week was my last day of school.... it was soo sad.... it seemed like we had been going to school forever! Actually, we had been going for almost half my life so it was a long time!

Miss Natalie is my favourite teacher in the whole world! Mommy says she would recommend her to everybody! On my last day of school, I brought Miss Natalie a present.. it was a bag that had dirt and flowers in it and you could grow the flowers right out of the bag! They were called "forget-me-nots"... I'm not sure why that was funny, but Miss Natlie thought it was so cute! She said how could she ever forget Mr. Matthew!

On my last day, Miss Natalie also brought a water table to class with little ducks for us to play with (mommy note - see pictures some time next week)... but Miss Natlie didn't know that playing with water is my most favourite thing to do in the whole wide world!!!! I was there in a flash and I didn't want to leave....

When Mommy said that it was time for the other babies to play, she took me back to the mats, but I snuck away in a few seconds and crawled all the way back by myself.. I squeezed my way inbetween two mommies and started to play again! I didn't even care that my Mommy wasn't with me!

But then Miss Natalie said it was time to come back to class and she put a lid on the table. I was not impressed. I didn't not want to participate in the last part of my class, not even the parachute, which is one of my favourite things. I just wanted to crawl back to that table and try and figure out how the heck to get the water back!

Thankfully, I still couldn't resist the bubbles, so that brought me crawling back to the rest of the group.

I'll miss my class but hopefully some day I'll be able to go again :O)

I can see the world

Story #1:

Mommy and Daddy recently turned my carseat the other way! Sssshhh... don't tell the carseat police, because Mommy says she's really not supposed to do that until I'm 1 year old, but the carseat police don't realize that I can't even bend my legs straight at all when I sit backwards. In fact, I almost have to sit cross-legged and that's no fun, especially when you have to sit in the thing for 8 hours!

So, the first time that Mommy put me in it, I could tell that something was different.... hey! I could touch the DVD player in the ceiling! Hey... and I can see the front of this thing Mommy drives me in... wait a minute... I CAN SEE MOMMY!!!!! ALL THE TIME!!!!! Sometimes she turns around and makes me giggle, and other times, I look at her in the rear view mirror.

My carseat is right in the middle in the back of the truck, so I can see right out the front windshield.. it's quite entertaining to see everything forwards instead of backwards!

My trip to Edmonton and Saskatoon was also lots of fun because Mommy could easily feed me a bottle or pass me treats or pass me toys and she didn't have to sit in the back all the way there!

Sorry it's been so long!

Hi everyone,

It's me, Matthew blogging. Sorry it's taken me and Mommy so long to write! I have lots to tell you, so I'm going to tell you in little bits... (because it still takes me a long time to type!).

Sorry, no pictures right now though. Mommy and I are in Saskatoon, so you'll have to wait until we get back to see pictures!

See you soon!

Love,
Matthew

The Snack Trap

The other day I was shopping for Matthew... and found something I'd heard about a long time ago ~ "The Snack Trap".

I figured since we're full on into snacks now, that the "Snack Trap" would be a great idea!

It has big claims:

We thought we'd try it out on Cheerios... just like they show on the box.....

..... Maybe they should have hired Matthew as a tester!

hmmm... what to say...

Sorry I haven't blogged for a while. I'm in one of those ruts again. So let's see... what's new at our house?

..I am finally over a cold that seemed to last forever.. well 2 weeks and 1 day to be exact. Matthew and Darren haven't gotten it (knock on wood)...

...we've had some beautiful weather here lately... yesterday was 13 I think... makes for nice long walks to the park. Matthew never likes the "walk" part... probably because he sees the same houses every time... but he loves the "swing" part at the halfway point to our walk!... hopefully we'll have some different routes to take soon! I hear they're putting a Sobey's up within walking distance of our house! That will be a good excuse for getting some exercise.....

.... Matthew's still crawling up a storm.. no walking yet, but he is walking around..... walls... yeah, I know you thought I was going to say furniture.. nope.. he has no interest in walking around the coffee table.. but find a stretch of nicely painted wall and he'll give her a go.... especially if there's a door nob within reach... that's his new obsession...

....we've recently had to give up "baby food".... Matthew decided one day that he'd had enough mush and was only going to eat "real food".... thankfully he will still eat baby cereal, but other than that, it has to be what we eat... now what to do with the 30 jars in the pantry.....

.... Matthew will be 10 months old tomorrow.... wow... I really can't believe it... I also can't believe that marks.... gulp... 6 weeks until we start visiting Nanny's house and ....gulp gulp.... 8 weeks until that which will not be spoken of happens....

that's it for now folks....

I'm a Big Boy!

When mommy sat me down in a chair,
A very nice lady started combing my hair.

At first I thought "This isn't right!"
And I began to put up a bit of a fight.

But mommy was calm and smiling away
So I sat very still to see what they'd say.

The next thing I knew, I could see very clear
No more looking through all that really long hair.

And as I looked at mommy, who was smiling with joy,
I knew this was the day I became a big boy!
