I'm SOOOOO Big!

Matthew's Laugh and Learn Puppy is programmed to once and a while spit out a phrase for the babies. This morning, I think the batteries are dying because it's talking non-stop... it keeps saying "I'm SOOOOOO big!".... which is a perfect intro to this post, because Matthew is getting SOOOO big!

He was at the doctors this week for a checkup and weighed 11lb 12 oz. So, bye-bye to the Newborn clothes! They have already all been packed up :o( even all his onesies were too short already. What worries me is the 3mo clothes say for up to 13 lb.. yikes! I guess that means we move into 6 month clothes shortly and just roll up the sleeves until he fits them!

Next week, we go to visit Grandpa and Grandma in Saskatoon. We will be taking a ride on an airplane together for the first time! I'm sure I will have stories to share about that. Thank goodness the first time we try this, we only have to fly for an hour :o)

More next week....

Happy Father's Day!

Matthew decided to give Daddy the best first Father's Day present ever.... he started smiling like crazy today!

We knew they were real smiles when we went in to get him from a nap and he was looking right at us and smiling away and smiling when we would make funny faces or put a toy in front of him.... those smiles definitely weren't gas!

Of course, he hasn't learned to smile on command yet though, so you kind of have to take our word for it. The pictures below are just a fraction of the big toothless grins we were getting out of him today!

Round and Round The Kitchen We Go...

I just managed to put Matthew down for a nap, I won't say it's for the night yet, because he usually doesn't go to bed for good until after 11. Yesterday, he seemed to want to nap all day.. today, not at all!

After 78 laps around the kitchen island while bouncing and singing at the same time, he fell asleep! I've already learned that that doesn't mean you can rush to put him down.. oh no, if you do that, he's bound to wake up the second I put him down. Instead, I need to walk/bounce/sing one step at a time all the way up the stairs, then continue for 5 minutes up and down the hall and then try to put him down!

On Thursday, my co-workers threw a baby shower for Matthew and I. It was a lot of fun and Matthew was spoiled with lots of toys and gifts! See below for some pictures from the day.

One of the gifts that we got is called a Fisher Price Learning Puppy. It is a cute stuffed dog that sings all kinds of songs and ABC's, etc. Although it is meant for 6 mos+, Matthew seems to really enjoy hearing the songs that the puppy sings, so we've been playing with it a lot. And so...

I used to go through the day and often have the latest Country song going through my head... today, over and over again in my head, it went like this.... "do your ears hang low, do they wobble to and frow...." sheesh! I'm only 1 month into Mommyhood and baby songs have already invaded my brain!

The other day, Matthew and I were stuck in a traffic jam on Deerfoot (big surprise). Matthew loves car rides as long as we're moving; he can tell as soon as we get into traffic and he announces his displeasure as well. So, Mommy has learned that singing will get him to stop fussing. At this point in the game, I can only remember so many kids songs, so I just start making stuff up. And when you really get into it, your head starts bobbing, you start tapping on the steering wheel, etc. ..

Oops, and you forget that you're stopped in the middle of the freeway with cars on either side and some young guy in the car next to you is laughing his head off! oh well! I bet he'll be singing in the car one day too.

I haven't caught Darren singing yet - I think he's trying to be Mr. cool with Matthew, but I bet when Mommy's not home they're singing up a storm as well!

Oh Boy! I'm ONE month old!

Hi everyone,

Ok, first off, sorry for not posting anything in the last week.. it was a busy one for some reason! I'm glad everyone is enjoying the blog, because I got a lot of e-mails inquiring as to why there were no posts! Not to worry, everything is fine!

Last week, Grandma and Grandpa came by for a short visit on their way to Edmonton to see Uncle Brian graduate from medicine. Matthew enjoyed having extra attention again, and Mommy was able to get a few hours of Mommy time in as well!

On the weekend, we took Matthew to my boss' house to visit with some of my co-workers. He was a good boy and slept the entire time!

Yesterday, Matthew had his 4 week check-up. All is fine! Doctors are funny though... I think because Matthew was breech and it took him a while to straighten his legs, we seem to continuously get different height readings from the doctors. The nurse that took the reading this time measured the same thing as last time and so when the doctor input it on the graph it didn't look like he was growing at all. He said to me "well, nothing we can do about it, he's just not going to be very tall.." Then he came to the table and took one look at Matthew's long legs and said "oh, ignore everything I said, those graphs are never right... he's going to be tall!"

Matthew has started to enjoy is play gym... he loves to look at the baby in the mirror! He has also started to grab at the toys hanging above him. In fact, He just discovered that he has hands a few days ago! Now, Mommy has to stop wearing a chain for fear it will be ripped off, and Matthew has to realize that he is hurting himself when he pulls on his hair! It's hard not to chuckle because he grabs handfuls of his hair and then wimpers when it must hurt! Luckily, he hasn't really discovered that it's fun to suck on his thumb too much.. I've caught him once or twice, but it hasn't become a routine thing.

Well, that's all for now.. Check back in a few days for some more pics posted.

3 weeks old!

Matthew turned 3 weeks old yesterday! 3 weeks already? I can't believe how quickly that time has gone by, and I'm told it just gets faster and faster.

Matthew's doing great! He's starting to lift his head up and look around when you're holding him on your shoulder and he loves to watch Darren and I make funny faces! Uncle Mark and Bev bought him a Fisher Price Aquarium for the side of the crib, which is a god-send when he's fussing! It calms him down immediately! It is a little aquarium complete with water, lights, bubbles and little fish that dance round and round... what a great invention!

So, in 3 weeks, I've learned a lot of things that I never would have guessed before I had Matthew. Here's just a few:

~ It is possible to shower in 30 seconds as opposed to the 10 minutes I used to take

~ It is possible to tell time by the which show you can hear in the background on CTV

~ There is nothing good on day time TV, but when you're feeding, any TV is better than looking at the wall.. hence, I've learned: Regis and Kelly are annoying... the View isn't that great... The lunchtime news is pretty good... and Nick on the Bold and the Beautiful is not guilty of murder (thank goodness)...

~ Babies can manage to poop through multiple layers of clothing and halfway up their back.. and somehow get it on the bassinet (Dad says Mom did a poor diaper job)... and even poop on a clean towel after their bath

~ Babies can also pee at a 45 degree protectile from the change table onto the carpet, on anybody who wants to hold them (including Uncle Brian), and also through multiple layers of clothing

~ The birds really do sing at 3:53 a.m.

~ most of all, I now understand when people say that having a baby is truly amazing and absolutely undescribable and I already can't imagine life without him!

Take care everyone!
Talk to you soon.
