The Stairmaster

So, yesterday Matthew decided to climb the stairs!
He saw Token sitting on the landing and thought he might go after him.
First try and he made it all the way to the second floor.

Poor kitties... you should have seen the look in their eyes... I think it was something like "now we're not safe ANYWHERE!!!!"

A boy and his kitty

As you can imagine, Matthew and his kitties are getting to know each other better every day.

Matthew is getting quicker and quicker at chasing after Tia and Token and even sneaking up on them unsuspectingly from behind... and Tia and Token are getting faster and faster at running away from Matthew and at figuring out when he is trying to sneak up on them!

Matthew has been fascinated with the cat's toys more so than any of his own. In fact, the dangly block hanging off the cat perch can bring much excitement to Matthew, several times a day!

We have been steadily working on teaching Matthew how to pet the kitties "gently"... we're not there yet. Matthew's idea of "petting" is getting a fistful of hair out of the cats ;o)

Matthew gets very delighted when one of the cats sits within 5 feet of him. Especially when he is in his highchair. I have caught him, on occasion, dropping cheerios off the side to a waiting Token below.

Today, Matthew and Token had a bonding moment. Matthew was in his highchair eating supper and Token was sitting right beside him on the kitchen chair, hoping that maybe some of Matthew's supper would come overboard.

Matthew decided that it would be funny to shake his spoon at Token. Token decided that it was fun to bat at the spoon that Matthew was shaking. And back and forth it went. Matthew thought this was hilarious! And so a new game was born. It may have only lasted for a few minutes, but it was the beginning of a beautiful friendship :O)

My Little Helper

I'm not sure why I bothered to buy Matthew so many baby toys. He doesn't seem to want to play with any "baby" toys. He wants to do big boy things.
Again, I'm not sure when it happened, but somewhere he went from baby to little boy.

Today, he pulled the register out of the floor in his bedroom. This was a big achievement for him and even more fun to keep pulling it back out everytime Mommy put it back in. Anyone know how to prevent this? I have fears of all kinds of little toys ending up down there in the months to come....

Let's see... finger pinching has also become a regular event in our house. Apparently, 9 month olds mustn't have great memories yet because Matthew will get his fingers caught in a cupboard door; scream very loudly until distracted by something else; then proceed to do it again 5 minutes later!

Oh, and then there's still the ever popular water cooler. Today, Matthew pinched his finger (see a theme here).. this time in the trunk of his Fisher Price Car. Poor guy! He closed the flap with his other hand and didn't realize that he was causing himself the pain!

So, I decided to call Fisher-Price to give them some feedback, letting them know that the little guys like to stand up on the front of the car and they use the trunk as support, thus enabling themselves to get pinched. Anyhow, I was on the phone for a few minutes. Matthew was right beside me, but I guess I got distracted on the phone momentarily because the next thing I knew, there was water every where on the floor! All the way from the water cooler to the fridge! It took 8 teatowels to soak it all up!

So, yeah... every day brings a new adventure. I wonder what we'll have in store for tomorrow?

My First Valentine

Hi everyone, it's me, Matthew, blogging today.

Yesterday was a special day! Mommy called it Valentine's day! I didn't know what it meant, but Mommy said it's when you get to say and do nice things for the people that you love.

But guess what?!?! I got presents!! Yeah, I thought it must be Christmas again already! First thing in the morning, Mommy brought in a package..

We opened it up and there were shiny presents for me to open from my Grandma and Grandpa!

And, I even got to give Daddy his very first valentine from me!

Talk to you later!

Love,
Matthew

I'm 9 months old!

Hi everyone, It's me, Matthew, blogging today!
Yesterday I turned 9 months old! That's 3/4 of the way to 1 year old! Mommy says we're going to have a party when I turn 1 year old! I can't wait! (But Mommy says she can for some reason)

Mommy weighed me yesterday. I weigh 23 1/2 lb and I am 30 1/2 inches long! That puts me in the 95% percentile for my age. Mommy found some website that predicted how tall I am going to be... it says I'm going to be 6' 1" tall... that's way taller than Mommy!

I can do lots of things by myself now! My favourite is to be in the kitchen while Mommy is in the kitchen. When she opens the fridge, I can crawl really fast to try and get there before she closes it. If I get there, I try to grab all of the bottles before the door closes. I can't get the fridge open if the door is closed, so I have to take every opportunity I can to find out just what's in there!

Then, I go to play with my special drawer. Mommy had to make a special drawer just for me. It has all kinds of things that are made out of plastic so that I can't break them. Mommy used to have stuff made out of glass in that drawer, but I started to take them out and Mommy thought I was going to break them all!

I like to pull on the handles of the doors. Mommy thinks that I don't know that they open, but I know they do, I just am not strong enough to open them yet..... but you wait!

Then, I like to help Mommy with the dishwasher. When she puts in the silver things, I take them back out for her! She says they need to stay in there because they're dirty, but I like to hear the sound they make when they fall on the floor!

Oh, and then there's the garbage can. Mommy always says "yucky!!" when I touch it, but that doesn't stop me! I've even tipped it over a few times. Mommy says she is shopping for a new one. She says we might have to buy an expensive one with a lid if I keep knocking over the garbage.

Sometimes, I'm good at listening to Mommy when she says "ta"... I think "ta" means that I'm not supposed to touch something. Sometimes though... it's just sooo interesting that I can't help myself!

Yesterday, I was playing under the kitchen table!

Mommy had to put my jolly jumper and my imagination station downstairs. She says she was sad to put them away but I am too big for them now. They don't hold babies that are almost 24 pounds!

That's ok though. I have lots of big boy toys to play with now instead!

Well, I have to go and help Mommy make supper now. Talk to you soon!

Love,
Matthew

Watercooler for Sale....

Anyone need a watercooler? We might have one for sale very shortly!
Today, Matthew discovered that the little black and white handles that he's stared at before.... have water coming out of them if you hold them down!!!! This discovery was met with a huge grin and about a minute of water streaming into the catch bucket before Mommy said "enough"!!!

Suprisingly, he did not go back to it after that.... do you think my "ta ta"'s actually worked??? he he, I'm doubtful.

Today, the weather was still nice. We're expecting a storm tomorrow. We went for an hour walk this afternoon. All that fresh air must have pooped him right out because he had his supper and decided he needed a nap. I was thinking 20 min or so... but he decided he was going to bed for the night! It's 8pm now and we haven't heard a peep out of him yet.... good thing I got him into his sleep sack, although he is still in his t-shirt.

Darren tells me guys fall asleep in their clothes all the time, so it's ok. ?!?!

I missed it...

**Sigh**..... I don't know how it happened, but I missed it.

Somewhere in the last month, my baby went from being a baby to being a little person.
I realized it when I was flipping through some of the videos we had taken of him. He's no longer a little baby! He's not doing little baby things anymore! He's doing big baby things now... How did I miss it?

This is how I found him when I went in to get him from his nap... quiet as a mouse... for all I know, he was this way the entire time I thought he was napping!

So, he's now figured out how to stand in the crib... and he's figured that he can get my attention by banging his mobile loudly against the side of the crib until I come into the room.... oh nap time as I know it is over!

Today we went to the zoo to take advantage of the beautiful weather with Matthew's friends Matt and Taygan and their mommies! We had lots of fun... We might even go back tomorrow!

We went to see Matthew's favourite, the giraffes, first thing. Except, this time, he was a little freaked out by the whole building and started to make strange a bit. It was such a great day to be there because there was hardly any one in the building and we were there just as all of the animals were having their lunch, so they were all out for us to see! We even got to see the hippo swim right in front of us in the big tank.

Then, we went to have lunch! That was lots of fun with 3 babies! Here's Mr. Matthew enjoying a mum-mum...

And one more mum-mum for the ride home....

Lunch took us pretty much 1 1/2 hours and by then all the mommies and babies were pooped! So, maybe, just maybe, we'll take another trip back tomorrow :O)

They'll always be little boys

So tonight Uncle Clint came over for a visit.
Matthew had decided to fall asleep early, or as so Daddy claims anyhow. I was downstairs making supper and at 6:45 went to see what was going on upstairs and Matthew was already sleeping! "He fell asleep before I could even put him in his sleep bag".... hmm.... funny how that always happens when I come to inquire!

Anyhow... I knew that wasn't sleeping for the night. So, he woke up just as Uncle Clint was arriving and Daddy brought him downstairs. Geepers Creepers! The child has never screamed as loud as he did then! I'm not sure if it was because he just got up, or he remembered that it was Uncle Clint that Mommy and Daddy had abandoned him on in Banff... or because Uncle Clint has a gotee?? I don't know, but it took a good 5 minutes before he would calm down. (Then only one or two tickles from Uncle Clint and suddenly Matthew as his best friend).

Later on, the Men, er... boys, were upstairs playing video games and so you can imagine that Mr. Matthew did not want to go to bed. Here he is... right in the middle of all the action!

p.s. Matthew has now figured out how to pull himself up on to everything and anybody who will let him... His new trick is to hold his hand out and get you to help him "walk" over to something else that he wants to see.... oh boy.. it won't be long now....
